Does my animal have fleas ?

Did you know that…

Symptoms and health problems caused by fleas:

Scratching, hair loss, secondary skin infections, taenia (tapeworm) and sometimes no symptoms are seen.

TICKS

Ticks are small arachnids (spider family) that live on the blood of mammals and birds.

 

Symptoms and health problems caused by ticks:

The bite can cause swelling, redness, or irritation, but most often, there are no symptoms.
Ticks can cause Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichiosis, Tick paralysis.

What do the numbers show us…

Did you know that…

- Brown in color

- Their bodies consist of a head, thorax, and
  abdomen and appear laterally flattened.

- They have 6 legs, highly developed.

- They use their hind legs for jumping and
  propelling through hair.

What are external parasites?

External parasites are organisms that live on a host (skin, hair, ear) and benefit by deriving nutrients and shelter at the host's expense. This month, we will talk about fleas and ticks.

with mouthparts adapted for

piercing skin and sucking blood.
